We have a relatively simple formula for planting and stewarding landscapes that can produce a wide range of aesthetic results.
Our plantings are designed to be lower maintenance and lower water use than conventional plantings that include features like turf lawns and clipped evergreens. We have carefully researched an ever-expanding palette of plants that are either native to the Pacific Northwest or are suited to the challenges of our ever-changing winter-wet/summer-dry climate.
While many native plant focused designers rely only on locally and historically native species, our plantings take your specific site into consideration, acknowledging the effects of the urban heat-sink, and planning for climate variability when choosing long-lived species. This means including species that maybe never occurred here naturally, but are common in Oregon and Northern California for instance. Nonetheless, we always make sure to include a few species that are keystone in our area—those that attract the greatest variety of pollinators.
Another piece of our focus on ecosystem resilience is to help folks grow food on their property, whether that means installing raised beds, providing consultations for new veggie gardeners, or pruning your fruit trees, we love helping you through the challenges of gardening, so that you can focus on the parts that bring you joy.
Our design specialist, Ashley Labat, makes floral arrangements as ((Meadow Bloom)) from materials she grows at her home garden.
We believe this work–stewarding living spaces and creating useful and meaningful objects from their overflow of abundance–is vital to repairing humans’ connection to the natural world.
We’re happy to visit weekly, monthly, seasonally, or just for special projects, but generally we keep to a minimum of 2 hours per visit for repeat clients, and a half day minimum for new clients and one-off projects.
